Sharon Erdrich

Dr. Sharon Erdrich, PhD, MHSc (Hons), RN (NZ Reg) I am a clinician, educator, and researcher with more than 40 years of experience in healthcare, and a career-long commitment to advancing integrative, evidence-informed practice. My work centers on the gut microbiome and its role in improving health outcomes - uniting clinical insight, scientific rigor, and a systems-based approach to care. My healthcare journey began straight out of high school, training at Green Lane Hospital—then a world leader in cardiovascular medicine - where I became a New Zealand Registered Nurse. Over the decades, I have worked across diverse clinical settings, completed triple diplomas in natural medicine, and founded House of Health, a multidisciplinary clinic in central Auckland. Alongside clinical practice, I have held senior roles in health education including lead tutor, lecturer, programme leader, and course developer at Wellpark College of Natural Therapies and the New Zealand College of Massage (BHlthSc). I have lectured in Bachelor of Nursing programs and currently serve as an Adjunct Fellow at Southern Cross University, where I teach into postgraduate courses in integrative healthcare. I hold a PhD from the University of Sydney, where my research focused on the gut microbiome in fibromyalgia, and a Master of Health Science (Hons) from the University of Auckland, where I investigated nutrition in men with prostate cancer. I have authored 12 peer-reviewed journal articles and co-authored two book chapters, including the World Naturopathic Federation’s HTA "Gastroenterology" chapter, and "The Importance of Protein Intake in Relation to Oral Health" in Protein Intake in Health and Disease. My passion is translating microbiome science into practical clinical strategies that improve patient outcomes—bridging the gap between research and real-world practice.
